LookBook goes SpookBook
Dear Readers,
Maybe we can get inspired by these costumes for Carnival as well :)
-B
In order to conclude Halloween period in style, today I'm posting a series of Halloween costumes from the world's best updated fashion database: LookBook.nu. This year the same website organised a competition in collaboration with American Apparel to choose the best and most creative costume ideas for this year's Halloween. Needless to say, LookBook users uploaded a selection of really original costumes and I identified my favourites so that I can share them with you.
Maybe we can get inspired by these costumes for Carnival as well :)

Runway Malta 2011: The Event, The Attendees
Dear Readers,
THE EVENT
Why hello there! I'm completely exhausted and I think I'm becoming blind too. If you're wondering why my body is in 'dismantling mode', I can tell you it's because I've been going through the hundreds of photos I've taken from Runway Malta yesterday. There's a ginormous amount of material to cover, and since I'm only human, I'll have to divide all the stuff into different posts. This post is a general entry about the event, its organisation and the attendees' outfits. Let's start!
THE EVENT
Lounge Area
The event kicked off at one in the afternoon at Montekristo Estates in Luqa, and it was hot, very hot. The event itself and the weather itself I mean. According to plan, fashion shows started at two in the afternoon, with a show being held every hour. Between one show and another, all attendees were invited to relax in the lounge area or visit the exhibitions that were also set up for the occasion. VIP ticket holders had a reserved section in the aforementioned lounge area. Personally, I found that the place was exquisitely set up and drinks were very affordable. Unfortunately, many people complain about excessive prices at such events, but I'm sure everyone was happy with the service and the price-list YAY!
One thing I was slightly skeptic about was the fact that the lounge area was outside and it was too hot to relax outside. Such a pity! In fact, many people sought shelter from the scorching sunshine and went inside. However, things took a different turn at sunset. As the sun departed - excuse my poetic mood - people gathered outside and enjoyed the cool breeze that God was enough to send on this island!
As I already said, there was a fashion show every hour. All shows were held inside (praise the Lord!) in an incredible auditorium. I was honestly very impressed with the catwalk itself, the seating and the lights and sound. Naturally, I was expecting good organisation, but this was more than 'good', it was fantastic. I liked that all attendees could get a very good view of the catwalk due to the way the seating was organised. Another thing I must mention concerns the 'press area' at the pit of the runway. A couple of photographers and myself were at the end of the catwalk ready to snap away, and all I can say is that we had ample space to work comfortably. Personally speaking, I think the entire layout was very well devised and I really enjoyed working in such an environment! :)
THE ATTENDEES
Now, onto the aspect most of you want to know about: what did the attendees wear? I immediately noticed that people seem to have interpreted the dress-code in different ways (was there a dress-code?) because there was a little bit of everything, from extremely formal dresses to more casual maxi-dresses! Some attendees also wore denim trousers and to my delight, there was also an attendee in a denim dress. If you want to see pictures of the guests, you can view them here on my Facebook page. Check out the looks I've selected below for some fashion inspiration :)
Oh my my, this is stunning! I chose this look simply to disprove a couple of narrow-minded 'people' who think that a a black dress is the epitome of boredom. Yes, in yo faces! I love how gold was used to spice up a plain, black dress. Oh, and the lady here is sporting one of the must-haves in the coming season: the envelope clutch! As usual, I've found a couple of similar items for you. There's a very similar gold envelope clutch on ASOS, but if gold is not your thing, there's a silver one at New Look. Those who prefer non-metallic versions can opt for the Patent Envelope Clutch from New Look or this OMG-MUST-BUY-NOW envelope clutch from ASOS.
If I had to be a polka dot dress - the probability of that happening is very low, I know - I'd be a blue and white polka dot dress. That's why I fell head over heels with this dress. The good news is that New Look have an almost identical one and Boohoo do a similar one too. YES, I feel happy now.
I've declared my love for maxi-dresses a countless number of times, but I can't help myself from repeating this fact as much as I can. Frankly, I think maxi-dresses would have been an ideal thing to wear to yesterday's event, because they're so easy to dress up without looking over-the-top. Most importantly, on such a hot day like yesterday, maxi-dresses are the ideal answer to the 'What do I wear today that allows me to breathe in this heat?'. There are plenty of maxi-dresses out there, and don't you dare remove them from your closet for now, because they're set to be one of Autumn's principal trends. I'm currently liking this particular maxi-dress from Boohoo. It's called Lara, like moi. Awhh!
I chose the outfit above because it looks effortless yet so dressed up and chic. The clothes themselves are very simple - although there's a good use of contrast right? - but the accessories chosen are truly statement pieces. As you might have noticed, she's also wearing an envelope clutch that's very similar to this one from Boohoo.
Generally, I like to stir as far as I can from fitted, printed maxi dresses because they can go wrong, oh so wrong! But, sometimes, they work to perfection. Case in point, this printed maxi above. This dress, in my opinion obviously, is very hard to pull off. Why? It's white, and white is a bitch. It's patterned and it's extremely fitted. At the end though, I love how it all turned out. Accessories were kept simple, and that's a plus point!
Did you attend Runway Malta? How was it? Which designer did you like best? I'll be back very soon with photos from all the designers who showcased their marvellous collections. Until then, read plenty of Vogue!

A Night with Fashion Royalty: Runway Malta Launch Party
Dear Readers,
Good Morning! Do you feet hurt from last night? Mine do, a lot. But, as much as I would have loved to leave my heels at home, I couldn't attend the most fashionable party of the year in flats. Yesterday night, Boffism was at The Palace Hotel in Sliema for the Runway Malta Launch Party. One word to describe the event: pure glamour. Oh wait, those are two words.
Drinks!
All guests were greeted with a welcome drink and a photo on the red carpet. Needless to say, that made me very happy already! My gold brocade dress, my killer heels and most importantly, my Canon, were ready to shoot the all fashion insiders at the party. There was one problem, where should I start from? Everyone looked amazing. You can find all the photos from yesterday's event on my Facebook Page in this album.
It was very hard to single out a couple of pictures to show over here. As I said, all the guests looked stunning (I wasn't expecting anything less to be honest), but some of them just stole the spotlight.
First up, British designer Hasan Hejazi who had some serious colour blocking going on. It's such a pleasure to see guys doing colour blocking. It makes me happy! I must confess that the first person who grabbed my attention was this young designer, so Kudos to him!
You all know very well by now that I'm all excited about androgyny, especially bow-ties! So I was exhilarated when I spotted a pretty lady wearing a golden bow-tie and a feminine black skirt. I had to take a photo of the look! Oh, and don't you just love that floral maxi dress as well? So flattering!
Just Lovely!
I spotted the two ladies in the following picture as they were waiting by the bar. The orange dress immediately caught my attention! I enjoy meeting people who can pull off orange so well, because they are indeed only a few. That chain necklace is an amazing eye-catching piece and it works fantastically on the black dress. It reminds me I must get one very, very soon!
Loving the shoes too :)
Blue eye-shadow is one of my pet peeves, but Estelle managed to change my mind. I mean, how could you not change your mind when someone makes blue eye-shadow look so damn gorgeous! As always, Estelle, one of the models gracing the runway later on today, look polished to perfection! Such a style icon :)
Estelle and myself :)
I was lucky enough to exchange a few words with two international designers from The Netherlands, namely Nawie Kuiper and Branko Popovic. Their talent is mind-blowing. Honestly, beyond words.
I love!
Another designer who will be pleasing our eyes with an unimaginable collection later on today is Gori de Palma, who came all the way from Spain. Quite frankly, it's physically impossible to consider Gori de Palma just another face in the crowd. Excuse my blurred photo, it must have been excitement!
Must.take.better.pictures.when.excited.
I was really excited to meet Pavli at the event, and I was overwhelmed by her amazing sense of style. Doesn't she look sophisticated in her colour-blocking combo? Teal is such a lovely colour too! Pavli and male model Justin were among the best dressed of the night!
Rawr!
Last but not least, I admire my sister Christa for being brave enough to wear a white dress. Not everyone can pull it off, me included, so twelve points to you sis!
I might steal your clutch bag by the way.
All the guests at the party got a sneak peak into some of the collections that are going to be showcased today. There are a couple of pictures on my Facebook Page but I didn't want to spoil the fun by showing you too many pictures from the collections before the actual catwalk shows. I'M EVIL, MUHAHAHA!
I hope to see and capture many of you at Runway Malta later on today!

Street Inspiration: Valletta!
Dear Readers,
I hope you're not all asleep because that would make me very sad. Anyhows, today I finally found time to go style scouting in Valletta, our lovely capital city. It was a very hot day, and most people were wearing shorts and very skimpy tops, ALAS! However, I did manage to capture some gorgeous ladies on the street and I would like to share them with you! :)
