The Basics of Student Clothing.

Dear Readers,

After giving you a couple of tips on school bags and how to choose the best one to meet your needs, it is only natural for me to move on to another important necessity: clothing!

Do you remember how easy it was when we were still in secondary school? We simply woke up in the morning and all we had to do was to put on our uniform, between one complaint and another. I recall very vividly how much I hated my school uniform. Back then, it was the worst thing that ever happened to my existence. When I started attending sixth form though, things changed dramatically for me, as they might have done for you. For the first time, we could wear anything we wanted to school. Well, not quite anything. I attended a church school during sixth form, so my clothing choices were rather limited there too. Anyhow, restrictions aside, waking up and finding something to wear was fun and enjoyable for the first few weeks and then it slowly turned into a burden. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it became quite tasking.

It happens to each and every student on this planet: you wake up and you don't feel like attending your lectures. It might be raining, you might be in a bad mood or you simply feel like going shopping instead. BUT, you can't skip class because your lovely lecturer records every student's attendance and you don't want to get in trouble. The least thing you feel like doing is coming up with a stylish outfit of course.

This is why, dear readers, all students should have certain basic go-to pieces that work each and every single time. After two years at sixth form and four years at university, I think I can give you a couple of suggestions on 'student clothing'. The following are just a couple of basics which should have you sorted quite easily. Most of the pieces mentioned apply for both boys and girls!

Starting from your body's lower half. Make sure you have at least one pair of good blue jeans and preferably one pair of black jeans too. Jeans are very versatile and they're good go-to options when you wake up in the morning feeling like P.Shitty. If jeans aren't your thing, you can always opt for jeggings or leggings. The latter, in particular, are extremely comfortable for long afternoons at the library, especially when you end up studying on the floor because all the desks are occupied. Please wear long tops with both jeggings and leggings.

Moving on to your upper half. First and foremost, I suggest having a plain white tee in your wardrobe. Make sure it's clean! White t-shirts are the perfect top since they quite literally match anything. Lara Boffa is obsessed with white blouses as well, so if you have some extra euro notes, invest in a good white blouse or shirt.

A black cardigan is a must, especially for the first few months of the new scholastic year. You know, during the first couple of months, it's too hot to wear a jacket but it's not that warm to strut your stuff in a sleeveless vest. So make sure you have a black cardigan - or any other colour if you wish, but I suggest black - handy for those slightly breezier days!

I hate it when I wake up to the sound of pouring rain on a weekday. Same goes with those days when it's incredibly cold and I spend at least 30 minutes to find a perfectly plausible good excuse to sleep some more. Seriously, I really don't feel like stepping outside. If I could, I'd just hang out in my jammies all day. Argh, but I can't, and you can't either. The answer to this very pressing problem, my dear readers, is a huge jacket! You know, one of those almost blanket-like jackets that can be worn over practically anything. I have a few such jackets in my huge collection of coats and jackets, and I honestly can't live without them during Winter. They're like a warm hug. BIG JACKETS ROCK!

Shoes, shoes, shoes! Since we're discussing the cold and rain issue, please buy yourself a pair of good boots for the Winter. When I say good I mean boots that keep your feet from getting soaked during heavy rain. Suede boots aren't appropriate for this purpose. I am a big fan of brogues, so I suggest having a pair of brogues as well. They're okay for rainy days and very stylish on warmer days. Yay for brogues! :)

Last but not least, which are the basic accessories of so-called 'student clothing'? Well, personally, I think no student should be caught dead without at least one beanie, in Winter naturally. They are what I pick when I (a) wake up with horrible hair, (b) spend an entire day at uni during Winter. My hair is always horrible by the end of it and (c) feel like looking prettier. Finally, grab yourselves a gigantic, woolen scarf to wrap around your neck for those days when you spend hours staring at an empty word document, almost hoping that God will show up to write your assignment. I promise, that scarf will be the most comforting thing ever.
